Josephine Bourdon Recognized by Alaska Legislature for Work in Revitalizing Native Culture

Josephine Tatauq Bourdon was officially honored by the Alaska Legislature for her more than 30 years of public service to Nome and the Bering Strait Region. Bourdon was presented with a legislative citation during last night’s regular Nome City Council meeting.

On Thursday, a Nome resident tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus. Norton Sound Health Corporation says the virus was acquired through community spread.

Nome Trailer Catches Fire, No Injuries Reported

Nome-Beltz Teacher Receives STEM Grant for Research Lab Kits, to Develop Young Scientists

Man Forcibly Arrested Outside Hansons, No Body Camera Footage Exists Say Police

Police arrested twenty-year old Javen Slwooko of Gambell in the Hansons grocery store on an active arrest warrant. He was mandated to return to the Seaside Center after completing his shift at Hanson’s on Friday, April 23rd but did not– prompting authorities at Seaside to notify the Nome Police for Slwooko’s arrest.

Nome’s Public Safety Commission Approves New Use of Force Policy

Nome’s Public Safety Advisory Commission convened this month to discuss the drafted use of force policy. After several cancelled meetings due to COVID-19, and failing to make quorum, the commission did meet on Monday for the first time since October of 2020.
