In Nome Forum, Dunleavy Draws Ire on Budget Cuts; Meeting Changes Format, With Citizens Eager for Discussion

Gov. Mike Dunleavy was in Nome on Wednesday to discuss his budget presentation in a public forum at Old St. Joe’s meeting hall. The broad cuts outlined in the governor’s proposal — as well as the involvement of the conservative political advocacy group Americans For Prosperity in sponsoring the event — drew ire from more than one hundred protesters outside the venue. Inside, an unexpected format change allowed citizens to attend without registration and, eventually, to ask questions spontaneously.
