Exterior building of Subway in Nome on snowy day

Two months after a burglary at the Subway sandwich shop in Nome, police are seeking community assistance identifying the burglar.

The burglar broke into Subway shortly after 1 a.m. on Oct. 13, according Nome Police Chief Mike Heintzelman. The burglar stole the store’s cash register drawers, along with some candy. The total estimated value of the stolen goods plus the damage from the break-in came to about $7,100.

While the crime happened in October, Nome Police posted a recording of security footage to the NPD Facebook page earlier this week. Chief Heintzelman explained why the footage wasn’t posted until now.

“It takes a long time to get in touch with certain people and … get things to be able to get posted … It does take time to investigate these cases, but the wheels of justice may turn slowly but they do turn,” Heintzelman said.

The footage shows the burglar wearing a blue hoodie with the hood pulled up. If you believe you might be able to help police identify the burglar, please call them at (907)443-5262 and ask for Officer Wanja or Sgt. Le.
