Nome Cross Country team race results for Smokin’ Stampede meet

The Nome-Beltz Cross Country team attended the Chugiak “Smokin’ Stampede” meet this past weekend. Although the meet was originally scheduled to be held at Chugiak High School, inclement weather caused the meet to be moved to Anchorage’s Kincaid Park.

For the boy’s race, Son Erikson was the first Nome Athlete to cross the finish line with a time of 18 minutes and 25.6 seconds. He placed 59th overall. Orson Hoogendorn placed 66th, second of the Nome-Beltz boys with a time of 18:34.7. Greg Finn was not too far behind at 68th place with a time of 18:39.1.

In the girl’s race, AwaLuk Nichols was the first Nome-Beltz runner to finish with a time of 21:52.5.  Overall, she placed 44th. Natallie Tobuk was the second Nome runner, placing 67th with a time of 23:51.8. Della Medlin rounded out the Nome girl’s top three with a time of 24:31.2. She placed 74th.

On Saturday Oct. 2, the Nome-Beltz team travel to Kotzebue for the Big West Conference Meet.
