COVID-19 Cases Identified in Unalakleet, Nome

On Thursday, a Nome resident tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus. Norton Sound Health Corporation says the virus was acquired through community spread.

This follows an earlier announcement from Wednesday, June 9th, when three positive COVID-19 cases were identified in the Norton Sound Region.

On Wednesday NSHC confirmed one travel-related case in an NSHC employee and resident of Unalakleet. Two community-spread cases were found in Nome. All four latest patients are safely isolating, and their close contacts are being notified.

In total, there are now 14 active cases of COVID-19 in the region – 13 in Nome and one in Unalakleet.

NSHC has been in contact with community leaders in Unalakleet to develop a response plan. Residents in Unalakleet can schedule a time to be tested by calling 624-3535. NSHC adds that any vaccinated close contact does not need to quarantine.

Community members with questions can email covidinfo@NSHCorp.org. The Nome-based Nurse Call Line is also available at 443-6411.
