On Wednesday, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified a positive case of COVID-19 from a Nome resident. The case is considered community-spread. The patient is safely isolating and close contacts have been notified.
There are now ten active cases of COVID-19 in the region – all of which are in Nome. In total, there have been 371 positive cases in the Norton Sound Region.
Statewide, there were 46 new cases reported on Thursday, and no additional deaths had been noted.
As of June 1st, 60% of the entire region has received at least the first dose of the vaccine, leaving the Norton Sound Region only 10% short of its goal for herd immunity.
