The Nome-Beltz Nanooks boys basketball team beat the Delta Junction Huskies 67-39 in opening action at the 2021 ASAA March Madness Alaska Boys Basketball State Championships last night at Colony High School in Palmer.

The Nanooks handled the Huskies effectively throughout the game, finishing each quarter in the lead. Dawson Schaeffer was named Player of the Game, while Carisse Evans was awarded Cheerleader of the Game.

The Nanook boys face Monroe Catholic (Fairbanks) in the 3A semi-finals tonight at 8:00 PM at Wasilla High School. In the other 3A semi-final, Mt. Edgecumbe faces Anchorage Christian School. The winners of both games will advance to the 3A championship on Saturday at 3:00 PM at Palmer High School.

The 2021 ASAA March Madness Alaska Girls Basketball State Championships was happening simultaneously, but the Nome-Beltz girls basketball team came up short in their opening 3A tournament game. The Nanooks lost to Monroe Catholic 64-to-39 and will now face Kenai Central for a consolation game scheduled for Friday at 2:00 PM.

Go Nanooks!
