Veteran Mushers Kaiser and Dyche Scratch

Man in black baseball hat and black puffy jacket standing on a busy Anchorage street.

The 2021 Iditarod Sled Dog Race is down to 38 competitors. Both of Saturday morning’s scratches from veteran mushers Peter Kaiser of Bethel and Riley Dyche of Fairbanks were in the best interest of their teams.

Aaron Burmeister took the lead over Dallas Seavey overnight, as the two head towards the Rohn-South checkpoint.

Listen below for full leaderboard standings, a weekend weather preview from from Climatologist Rick Thoman, and a look ahead into what we can expect for trail traffic as all mushers head back southbound.

Correction: An earlier version of this story reported that Riley Dyche and Pete Kaiser scratched overnight. They both scratched on Saturday morning. The text body of this story updated and we regret the error.
