During tonight’s Nome Common Council regular meeting the council will discuss a resolution allowing for temporary animal trapping at Nome’s Inner Harbor. The resolution is likely a response to widespread community concern about a large and active fox population roaming the streets of Nome, although the resolution specifically mentions Conibear 110 traps for catching mink.

Also, on the agenda is the approval of an outside audit done for last fiscal year’s city budget. That would have included city revenues and expenditures going through June of 2020. The audit found that Nome’s revenues were higher than budgeted while its expenditures were significantly lower. The audit cites those drops in expenditures as a result of staff turnover and building closures when the COVID-19 pandemic began in March of 2020.

The last fiscal year also saw gains for the city’s general fund rather than losses.

The council will meet at 5pm tonight to hear more about the audit during a work session followed by a conversation at 6pm on how to spend the community benefits share from Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation.

Immediately following that conversation, the Nome Common Council regular meeting will be held tonight at 7pm at Nome City Hall.
