More Close Contact COVID-19 Cases in Nome, Norton Sound Reaches 300

Over the weekend, three residents of the Norton Sound tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus. There are currently 14 active cases of COVID-19 in the region.

According to Norton Sound Health Corporation, two new patients were identified in Nome on Friday, while a third was found in Brevig Mission on Saturday. One individual is a Nome resident who is a close contact of a previously confirmed case. Another patient is a non-resident of the region who tested positive through travel. And the third is an NSHC employee who tested positive while working in Brevig Mission.

NSHC says there was minimal exposure to patients in the local community due to that employee testing positive for COVID-19.

The State Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing will further investigate all three new cases.

As of Monday morning’s update of the NSHC data dashboard, there are eleven active cases in the region with 10 active cases in Nome and one case in a region village.
