A Nome resident has tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus after traveling. Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC) announced the latest COVID-19 case earlier today.

According to NSHC, the newest patient to test positive is considered a travel-related case. Their positive test result was confirmed yesterday. This latest case makes five active COVID-19 cases in the Norton Sound with three of them located in Nome.

The other two are believed to be community-spread cases in Brevig Mission.

NSHC urges residents to continue preventing the spread of the virus by socially distancing, wearing masks, and avoiding travel outside of the region.

The State Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified of the latest positive case and will be investigating further.
