Pete Kaiser and his dog team approach the 2017 Kuskokwim 300 finish line

The 2021 Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race has been postponed for a month with the start slated for February 12th. K300 race staff made this announcement yesterday citing lockdown mandates and COVID-19 restrictions in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta.

Race staff say they are, “hopeful that the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic in Alaska and the Y-K Delta will improve by then [February 12th].”

However, according to the K300, it’s possible this year’s race could be postponed again and or cancelled.

The Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race has never been cancelled, in over 40 years of its existence.

All 21 mushers who are currently signed up will have their registrations carried over for February’s race. According to the K300 website, there are 20 mushers listed on the roster.
