Three more cases of COVID-19 in Nome were identified and made public on Monday by the Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC).

Two of those were travel-related cases. NSHC reports that both cases were discovered through the city’s testing requirements for incoming travelers from Anchorage.  

One of those patients is a Nome resident. The other resides elsewhere, the health consortium said.

The third positive case of COVID-19 is a Nome resident who contracted the disease through community spread, reports NSHC. State public health officials will conduct contact tracing for all cases, officials said.

Nome has all of the Norton Sound region’s active cases. But the city’s active case load has decreased significantly from 62 last week. There are now 25 positive cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, officials said. There are at least 30 people in Nome currently in quarantine as a precaution.
