Another close contact of a previously confirmed COVID-19 case in Nome has been identified. Norton Sound Health Corporation says all of the region’s active cases are currently located in Nome.

NSHC announced yesterday that a new patient in Nome, who is considered to be a close contact case, had tested positive for the disease on Wednesday. The regional heath corporation did not say if the individual is a Nome resident or not.

With this latest case though, there are now 43 active cases of COVID-19 in Nome, which is down from 47 earlier in the week. NSHC says there are an estimated 160 people, confirmed cases or potential close contacts, currently quarantining in Nome.

None of the Norton Sound villages have any active cases currently located in their communities.

If you are identified as a close contact of someone who has COVID-19, NSHC urges you to get tested immediately. In Nome, there is now a drive-up testing option at the NSHC Operations Building.

As of the latest update of NSHC’s COVID-19 dashboard, there are still no deaths in the region and three total hospitalizations since the pandemic began. There are 259 total cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the Norton Sound; 43 cases are currently active, with 216 considered recovered.
