The November 3rd general election is three weeks away, and Western Alaskans will have to decide who they want to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Current incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan recently spoke to KNOM about some of the issues he’s campaigning on.

Many residents of this region know by now that Sen. Sullivan is an outspoken advocate for building the country’s resources and infrastructure in the Arctic. As the Senator puts it, there’s more than just talk happening now.

“So to me it’s a series of Arctic Ports that we are already starting to get approved, no longer talking about them, we are getting approval for these. We are getting the land for these. We are getting the funding for these and we’re getting the icebreakers that could be part of this.”

Sullivan has garnered dozens of endorsements from environmental and outdoors groups, state legislators, and even some Alaska Native Corporations like Arctic Slope Regional Corp (ASRC), and Bering Straits Native Corporation.

The Senator says he will continue to advocate on behalf of Alaska Natives and veterans, as he has done in office for the past six years.

“As many people know, our Vietnam veterans went to serve in a war that many Americans were avoiding serving in, so when they came home, they were told their deadline to apply for Native Allotments had expired. So, I worked very hard with a number of our great Alaska veteran leaders, many of whom are in the Bering Strait region, and we got that changed.”
