Regional Health Corporation Says Outbreak in Gambell is ‘Under Control’, COVID-19 Case Count Up to 29 Locally

Gambell, Alaska

Over the weekend, one more resident of Gambell tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus.

According to Norton Sound Health Corporation, the 29th case of COVID-19 in that community was confirmed on Saturday.  NSHC says the latest patient is a close contact and connected to prior cases from the local outbreak of the virus.

The regional health corporation continues to send supplies and additional health care staff to Gambell. NSHC says they are, “confident the outbreak is under control.”

The community’s hunker-down order remains in effect. Gambell’s leaders are encouraging residents to stay home and only leave for essential needs like grocery shopping.

With the latest case in Gambell, the Norton Sound region’s total COVID-19 count is up to 92. 26 of those are active, with the majority being located in Gambell, while 66 are considered recovered.
