Norton Sound Health Corporation has announced a new case of COVID-19 in a regional resident who is currently outside of the Norton Sound region.

According to NSHC’s announcement from this afternoon, the individual tested positive for the virus yesterday while they were traveling. This latest patient is a resident of the Norton Sound but NSHC did not say which community the resident is from.

However, NSHC did say that the COVID-19 positive individual was not in the region at any point during their infectious period and they are now self-isolating.

With this newest case, the regional total is 59 confirmed cases. Six of those are currently active and 53 are considered recovered.

In the same announcement, NSHC’s Medical Director Dr. Mark Peterson said of the virus, “sometimes we all get tired of it, but people understand we’re in this together. We’re getting there and there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”

Coming up for the Norton Sound region is influenza season. NSHC says they will have flu-vaccines available for the public at the end of this month. The regional health corporation reminds people to wear face masks and practice good hand hygiene.
