A second large group search for missing Nome woman Florence Okpealuk will take place tomorrow [Saturday].

According to a press release from the City of Nome yesterday, a community search is being coordinated for Saturday at noon. All volunteers are asked to meet at the Nome Fire Hall at that time to sign in and receive search assignments.

The first organized effort of this kind happened a week ago on September 5th, and more than one-hundred residents showed up to search for Okpealuk. Some pieces of evidence were found from that group search, but Okpealuk has not yet been located. She was last seen on August 30th and was reported missing the day after.

Nome Police and the City of Nome express their gratitude to those who have been searching and say, “with your support, we will bring Florence home.”

The Nome Search and Rescue team requests that any searchers looking for the missing woman separately contact them directly. This will help SAR map areas that have already been searched.

If you are interested in joining the search for Okpealuk, call 443-5262 (which is staffed 24/7) to contact Nome’s SAR Chief, Jim West Jr.
