Norton Sound Health Corporation announced over the weekend a new case of COVID-19 in the region. This case is suspected to be travel related.

A resident of the Norton Sound tested positive Sunday while in Nome, as part of the City’s COVID-19 quarantine and testing mandates. NSHC did not disclose which community the resident is from, only that they will remain isolated in Nome until their quarantine requirement is met.

The regional health corporation recommends residents hold off on unnecessary travel at this time, saying, “traveling outside of the Norton Sound could pose a higher risk for contracting the coronavirus.”

The State Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified of this case and will conduct further investigation.
