Norton Sound Resident Tests Positive for COVID-19, But Patient Is Not In Region

Another resident from the Norton Sound region has tested positive for COVID-19, but the State of Alaska reports the patient tested positive while working outside of the region. That announcement came from a Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC) press release early Tuesday afternoon.

Despite the patient being tested and confirmed for the disease outside of the region, this case is still counted as the 7th confirmed case of COVID-19 for the Norton Sound region. Neither their current location nor home community are being disclosed at this time, but state officials say the patient’s infectious period is limited to their current location, meaning they have not made contact with the Bering Strait/Norton Sound area while they are infectious. The state’s public health nurses have reportedly begun contact tracing.

NSHC is encouraging all individuals to limit travel and wear a mask in public places. Out of the now seven confirmed cases in the Norton Sound region, two are active and five are recovered.
