Lower Yukon School District COO Will Take Over as Superintendent This July

The Lower Yukon School District has appointed a new superintendent to replace Hannibal Anderson, who has retired from the position after being superintendent since the fall of 2018.

The LYSD Board convened for a special session to find a new superintendent and successfully found a replacement in long-time Alaska educator, Gene Stone. The board started this search during a meeting on April 2nd.

According to a press release from LYSD, Anderson is expected to finish out this semester as superintendent and Stone will take over on or before July 1st.

Stone is the current Chief Officer of Operations (COO) for LYSD. It is not known currently who will replace him in this position. Stone comes in with previous experience as a superintendent, having served as superintendent for the Mat-Su borough previously.

Stone said in a press release, “I am honored to have been selected as the Chief School Administrator for the Lower Yukon School District.”

His contract as superintendent of the LYSD lasts for the next three years at a salary of $150,000 per year.
