Nome’s only confirmed case of COVID-19 has now officially recovered.

Norton Sound Health Corporation announced that update in their daily press briefing today. There are now no active cases of confirmed COVID-19 in the Bering Strait region.

NSHC stressed that as per state guidelines, any individuals who test positive for the disease are monitored by a public health nurse. An individual generally is allowed to leave isolation seven days after the onset of symptoms and three days after recovery. To be recovered, a patient must be “fever-free” without the aid of fever reducers and have improved respiratory symptoms.

The regional hospital reports it has 500 testing kits available, approximately 200 of which are able to be immediately processed in Nome. 167 tests have been performed: 122 are negative, 44 are pending, and one was positive. NSHC has done 72 rapid tests in Nome.
