A warrant has been issued for a Nome man who is being investigated for sexual abuse of a minor.

According to a statement from the Nome Police Department, they are investigating Jake Wagner regarding information they received on February 17th. Wagner was formerly employed by Nome Public Schools. According to a statement from NPS Superintendent Jamie Burgess, when she was notified by NPD of the investigation into an NPS employee, Wagner was immediately placed on administrative leave. At this point in the investigation she cannot comment further, but says “the safety of our students is my highest priority, and I have taken all steps available to ensure the safety and privacy of everyone involved at this time.”

NPD says Wagner left Nome early on in the investigation process. As such, warrants have been issued for his arrest. The three charges against Wagner, which were filed in the Nome courthouse Friday, include two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree.

If anyone has information about Wagner’s whereabouts, they are urged to contact the Nome Police Department at 443-5262. NPD says the investigation is ongoing at this time.
