Team #6, Johnson and George Lost Lead After Crash, Aklestad and Olstad Hold Lead in 2020 Iron Dog

Snapshot of 2012 Nome-Golovin

Yesterday afternoon, Tyson Johnson and Brad George of Team 6 lost their lead in this year’s Iron Dog snow machine race not by being outraced, but due to Johnson’s crash just outside of Galena.

Johnson explained to KIYU radio exactly what happened.

“Yeah, it caught high sided and I just fell off and then I imagine the sled just barrel rolled or tumbled or something. I kinda have a hurt arm. I don’t know what, I just think I maybe bruised my elbow or something. ”

Team 7 of Tyler Aklestad and Nick Olstad then took over from Johnson and George. Aklestad gave his impressions of the crash to KIYU radio last night in Galena.

“They were trailbreaking, we were too, it was kinda blowing you all around. I’d say about 10 miles out of here, unfortunately they had a little get off. We were about a minute behind them or so and we got in front of them and led into here (Galena).”
