It’s no easy feat to travel to places like Provideniya, Nome’s “sister city” in the Russian district of Chukotka.

KNOM recently profiled the red tape and logistics involved in making “friendship flights” connecting the two regions. Both cities share a common culture and history — evidenced in musical ensembles like the New Chapilino Dance Group, pictured above, which could easily be mistaken for an ensemble in KNOM country.
