Nome Mining Remains Fodder for TV ‘Reality,’ As ‘Bering Sea Gold’ Returns

Nome’s gold-mining, “reality” television show, Bering Sea Gold, is now on its eighth season. Starting later this month, the Discovery Channel will once again showcase summer mining with Nomeites like Shawn Pomrenke.

According to a press release from Discovery, Ken Kerr and his 600-ton monster dredge Mrytle Irene is the newest competitor for Pomrenke, who is labeled as the top miner on the TV show. Vernon Adkison returns this season with a “gold-ship,” which he plans to navigate on a section of the Yukon River.

Another familiar face coming back to the gold mining scene is Emily Riedel, whom Discovery refers to as “the most successful female dredge owner in Nome.”

The latest season of Bering Sea Gold premieres on September 17.
