Three Finalists Being Considered for Nome City Manager

Double doors with a small placard reading "Council Chambers."

The search for a Nome City Manager gets closer to the end after the City Council interviewed candidates in a special meeting last night (Tuesday).

City Clerk Bryant Hammond confirmed that there are now three finalists for the position. Next, Hammond says the public will be able to meet those finalists in some type of public forum, potentially a “meet and greet” session. That event is currently being discussed and has not yet been scheduled. On Wednesday night, a city press release confirmed the three final candidates as: John Handeland, Randy Robertson, and Glenn Steckman.

While the candidates were interviewed in a closed executive session, the new City Manager will need to be confirmed by the City Council by a majority vote, according to the Nome Code of Ordinances, 2.35.10.

John Handeland has been serving the City of Nome as interim manager since October of 2018, when former City Manager Tom Moran resigned.
