Veteran salutes flag and color guard while bugler plays “Taps.”

Nome veterans and city dignitaries observed Memorial Day with a parade through town to the city cemetery.

KNOM brought live coverage to listeners, helping the station remember and honor those who gave their life for their country.

For locals, it’s an important day: Alaska’s population has the highest percentage of veterans of all 50 states (around 10-13%, depending on the data source).
