The remains of missing White Mountain elder Lincoln “Mike” Simon were recovered from Golovin Bay on Thursday afternoon.

Simon went missing in early November after his four-wheeler broke through the ice. Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) Sergeant Daniel Harrelson reported that three search-and-rescue boats went out on the bay last Thursday (May 16) to look for Simon. One of the boats recovered Simon’s body about 3 miles away from the site of the accident, near the mouth of the Fish River and Golovin Bay.

Harrelson says crews had been waiting for ice to clear so they could resume searching after being suspended for the winter.

Troopers responded to the incident Friday and had Simon’s remains sent to Anchorage for an autopsy.

Lincoln “Mike” Simon was the Vice President of the Tribal Council of White Mountain, and community members described him as “always sharing of what he had.”

Harrelson expressed gratitude on behalf of White Mountain for all of the support and donations the community has received during the months of searching. He reminds all Alaskans to use care when traveling on ice.

Rest in peace. That is sad for the families.
There is another mount which every man woman and child can walk. “Then Jesus led them to Bethany (elevation 580), and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.” (At end of the Gospel of Luke)
It is only a short walk, and with great joy. When you follow Him and look up then you behold Jesus. And the angels said He is coming back the same way in the end. The LORD Himself bless you and your house today. Amen.
