Leader of Mail Theft Conspiracy Is Sentenced; Worked for Ravn

Another Ravn Alaska employee has been sentenced for his involvement in stealing computers and other parcels that were destined for rural school districts.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s District of Alaska office, Congress Lepou will serve 12 months in prison for his lead role in a mail theft conspiracy. On Friday, the U.S. District Court Judge also ordered Lepou to pay $199,143 in restitution, based on the value of the 60 computers, countless phones, and tobacco products he stole between 2015 and 2017.

Court documents say the Bering Strait and Lower Yukon School Districts were both victims in this case. Alaska Public Media reported the computers were supposed to go to Saint Mary’s, Mountain Village, Stebbins, Unalakleet, Emmonak, Kotlik, Alakanuk, Koyuk, and other communities.

Lepou was one of six former Ravn employees involved in stealing the mail. According to court documents he and his co-defendant, BreadofLife Faiupu, “abused their positions as supervisors at Ravn Alaska to steal computers from the mail, and then recruited those they supervised to help find buyers for the stolen computers.”

Faiupu was sentenced in February to six months in a halfway house as well as five years of probation for his connection to the mail thefts.
