‘Dear Friend of KNOM…’ (April 2019)

Bishop Fulton Sheen once said that “unless there is a Good Friday in your life, there can be no Easter Sunday.”

KNOM’s Holy Week programming is modified from the usual playlists and newscasts to reflect the solemnity of the liturgies, then crescendos with the broadcast of Mass live from St. Joseph Catholic Church on Easter Sunday morning.

Thank you for bringing the sacred to the airwaves of Western Alaska, especially for the faithful in villages without a priest to celebrate Mass.

Keep up the good work! The world needs all of you. If I had a chance to visit you, I sure would.

How far are you from a city or village?

      Hello, Ron!

Thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement.

KNOM is located in Nome, which is a city of about 3,500 people. There are many small communities spread throughout our region; one of the closest would be Teller, Alaska, which is about 60 miles away “as the crow flies.” The distance from Nome to Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city, is about 535 miles.

I hope this helps; thanks again!
