The Lady Nanooks Cross Country team took first place in the Big West Conference between Bethel, Kotzebue, and Nome over the weekend. That means the entire team has qualified for the State Meet this Saturday (Sep. 29).

Bethany Daniel took first place, winning the girls’ individual championship, in 22 minutes 11 seconds (22:11). Zaida Baldwin of Kotzebue finished second with 22:36, followed just two seconds later by Starr Erikson of Nome in third.

Meanwhile, the boys saw three runners qualify for the state meet this past Saturday, after Nome-Beltz took second place overall behind Bethel. Tobin Hobbs, Ben Cross, and David Miller will join the girls in Anchorage to run in the state meet. Hobbs took second place with 17:53. Cross and Miller finished in the top ten, placing fourth and seventh, respectively.

The ASAA Division II State Meet starts at noon this Saturday in Anchorage.
