Fall sports continue for multiple Nome teams, with the annual Nome-Beltz cross country meet kicking off tonight.

Starting at 4:45pm, the youngest runners shall lead the way in the elementary race, followed by junior-high boys and girls; then, the varsity Nanooks will take over. To wrap up this cross country meet, there will be an open community race beginning at 7 pm. All races will be held at Nome-Beltz High School.

Tonight is also an eventful evening for the Lady Nanooks volleyball team as they travel to Kotzebue to take on the Huskies.

Nome is coming off a strong showing at the North/South Tourney hosted by Houston High School last weekend. To kick off Labor Day weekend, the Nanooks played seven individual games to 15 points each against a variety of teams. The results were used to determine seeding for the double elimination tournament that started last Saturday.

The Lady Nanooks came out of the weekend with two wins and one loss in tournament play, sweeping Redington two to zero and defeating Anchorage Christian two games to one. Nome’s toughest opponent was the Homer Mariners, who beat the Nanooks two to nothing.

Nome-Beltz volleyball is now five and three overall, with no losses in their division as they head into tonight’s matchup with Kotzebue.
