Selawik Man Drowns While Swimming In River

Selawik, Alaska

A Selawik man is presumed to have drowned Monday while swimming in the Selawik River.

According to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch posted online, troopers received a report that 45-year-old Chester Skin had last been seen going underwater in the river in the middle of town at around 7:30 Monday evening.

The dispatch reports, “Several people that were swimming and boating in the area began looking for Skin,” until his deceased body was found in the river around 10 o’clock that night.

Skin’s body was taken to the local clinic and later released to his family, according to troopers; no signs of foul play were discovered during the examination, but Skin was not reported to be wearing a life jacket.
