One Nome-Beltz High School alum has completed basic training and is on her way to becoming an active member of the U.S. Air Force.

Sonja J. Hukill finished her eight-week program at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas earlier this spring. Hukill’s training included Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare skills. As an airman who completed basic training, Hukill earned four credits towards an associate’s degree in applied science through the Air Force’s community college.

According to Jessica Switzer-Medina with the Joint Hometown News Service, Hukill should be close to finishing up her job specialty training at this time.

The former Nanook graduated from Nome-Beltz last summer. Now, about one year later, Hukill is expected to get her first assignment with the Air Force, after she completes her job training.
