Playing on their home court didn’t give the Nome-Beltz Nanooks varsity basketball teams too much of an advantage this weekend. Both boys and girls split their series against the Glennallen Panthers.

The girls played two close games, defeating the Panthers 33–29 Friday and losing 29–36 Saturday. They were led by top scorers Taeler Brunette, who had 18 points across both games, and Brooke Anungazuk, with 9 points on Saturday.

The boys’ games came down to one-point differentials, including a 77–76 win Friday night and a 54–55 loss Saturday. Gareth Hansen continues to be a top scorer, with 27 points overall, along with Harrison Moore and Stephan Anderson. Bobby Koezuna racked up an impressive 27 points in a single game Friday night, over a third (35%) of the Nanooks’ total.

With just three weeks to go until the Western Conference Tournament in Anchorage, the Nanooks will play Kotzebue this weekend. The boys head north for a two-game series beginning Friday at 9 p.m.

And the girls host the Lady Huskies for a two-game series, with games starting Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m., in the Nome-Beltz High School gym.
