In Public Hearing, Nome City Council to Discuss “Nuisance” Properties

Papers in Nome City Council chambers

Nome’s City Council will hold public hearings tonight to discuss certain public nuisance properties, or those that are on the abatement list.

During a 5:30pm work session, the Council plans to go over its budget priorities for fiscal year ‘19 and leave time for an abatement hearing regarding a list of about five specific properties. Once the regular meeting begins, extending the payment deadline for City property taxes will be the sole piece of unfinished business.

New business on the Council’s agenda includes hosting a public hearing on a resolution to declare certain buildings in city limits as fire or health hazards, and/or public nuisances. If this resolution is passed, then the City could be authorized to demolish at least four properties, including 207 Bering St., which is owned by Krier Investments, Inc.

Tonight’s Nome City Council meeting begins at 7pm in Council Chambers, following the conclusion of the 5:30pm work session.
