Nanooks Basketball Returns to the Court This Weekend

Nanooks girls, in white, play against Delta-Greely, in green, on the Nome-Beltz court

School starts again today for Nome Public Schools. That also means it’s back to the court for Nome-Beltz Basketball. Both boys and girls teams return to action after the holiday break with the Subway Showdown this weekend.

The Nanooks will host Kotzebue, Unalakleet, and Point Hope for a three-day tournament Thursday to Saturday. The tournament also includes a skills competition on Saturday morning.

The Nome boys’ record stands at 1–1 after a split series with Galena before Christmas. That puts them in the second spot in the 3A Western Conference, behind 2–0 Bethel and ahead of 0–3 Barrow and 0–0 Kotzebue.

The girls are 0 and 2 after two losses to Galena in December.

Both teams open Thursday evening with games against Point Hope. The girls play at 6:00 and the boys at 7:30, in the Nome-Beltz High School gymnasium.
