Lady Nanooks Head To Bethel For Regional Volleyball Championships

After some tough volleyball competition this season, the four teams in the 3A Western Conference will duke it out at the Great Alaska Conference Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

The Nome-Beltz Nanooks, Kotzebue Huskies, Bethel Warriors and Barrow Whalers will meet in Bethel for the tournament Friday and Saturday.

Nome looks to follow up on a strong showing last weekend at the Bethel Tournament. The Lady Nanooks swept Bethel 3–0, and beat Chevak and Redington as well, though they lost to Kotzebue 0–3.

Last year’s regional champion, Barrow, heads into the weekend still holding on to the top division standing. Kotzebue is seeded second, followed by Nome and Bethel.

The Nanooks kick off the tournament at 1:00 p.m. Friday with a match against the Huskies. The top two teams head to the 3A/4A state tournament in Anchorage next weekend.
