Nick Hanson Returns to ‘American Ninja Warrior’ This Summer

Nick Hanson scales a “salmon ladder” in his hometown of Unalakleet.

An Inupiaq man from Unalakleet returns to the TV show American Ninja Warrior this summer. His name is Nick Hanson, also known as “The Eskimo Ninja.”

Nick Hanson first applied to be a Ninja Warrior in 2015. The kids he coaches in Unalakleet asked him to try out. Now, he’s returning for a third season on the show. His reasons for competing are the same as they’ve always been.

“Not because I want to win a million dollars. Not because I want to be famous,” Hanson says. “I want to overcome something, and I want to reach a goal that I’ve set for myself. And that’s what I preach to my kids. So if I wasn’t to lead by example, what kind of coach am I?”

Hanson couldn’t give away too much about the new season, but he did say this:

“I’ll put it this way: there was blood. Yeah? That’ll be the one teaser that I’ll throw out there.”

Hanson appears in the season premiere of American Ninja Warrior this evening. And there will be blood.
