Community Volunteer Application, 1.0

Apply to volunteer at KNOM
  • Introduction

  • The online application for volunteering with KNOM Radio involves:

    1. Completing the basic information and short-answer questions below;
    2. Attaching one or several text documents (preferably in Microsoft Word or PDF format) and an audio recording (.mp3).

Full instructions for both parts of the application are below.

Since some long-form/creative writing is involved in the application, we encourage you to read over all of the prompts on this page before you compose your answers and prepare your documents. Come back to this page and submit when all your answers and documents are ready.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact KNOM prior to submitting your application.

  • Next Steps

  • This concludes Part 1. After you click "Submit," all of the answers you've currently provided will be sent; we'll attempt to send you a confirmation of your answers to the primary (permanent) email address you've provided.

You'll immediately be redirected to Part 2 of our application. Here's what we'll need:

    1. In a text document, please list your past 5 years’ employment, most recent first, to include:
      • Name and address of each company
      • Type of business
      • Supervisor’s name, title, email, and WORK telephone number, including area code
      • Dates employed
      • Reason for leaving
      • Description of work you did
    2. In a text document, please list three to five references who know you well and who are in a position to judge your motivation and employment record, such as teachers, pastors, supervisors, or employers. Do not include relatives. Please provide complete addresses, email, and phone numbers, including hours when they may be most likely available.
    3. In a text document, please write down your answers to the following questions:
      • What is your motivation for applying to KNOM?
      • What do you hope to receive from being a KNOM volunteer?
      • What special experiences, skills, or qualities will you bring to the program?
      • Include anything else you feel is important to mention or explain.
    4. If you are applying to be on the air, we need to hear what your voice sounds like. In an .mp3 audio file, please enclose a recording of your voice, preferably a “scoped” air check. If you do not have broadcasting experience, a 1-3 minute recording of you reading and talking is enough. While experience can be a plus, we are not necessarily looking for the most professional-sounding voice - only that you have the ability to read and speak clearly in English, without a strong accent.
