Sean was born and raised in Springfield, VA, in the suburbs of Northern Virginia, just across the Potomac from Washington, D.C. He says he’s thrilled to leave behind the sticky, humid summers of a city originally built on a swamp.

He graduated from Marymount University in August of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in communication, after a somewhat winding road that had him attend Virginia Tech in 2008 and 2009, work in several different industries from 2009 to 2017, return to school in 2017 at Northern Virginia Community College, and then finally transfer to Marymount in 2018.

Sean learned about the KNOM volunteer fellowship program in 2018, when some friends and family members pointed out an ad for the program in his local diocesan newspaper. He hadn’t yet graduated, but he kept the program in the back of his mind until he was eligible to apply in early 2021. To Sean, KNOM seems like the perfect opportunity to do work he loves, grounded in his faith, with like-minded people, in service to a community, in an exciting location. Sean hopes, above all, to learn during his time in Nome: about broadcasting, about his faith, about Western Alaskan history and culture, and about himself.

As a former Boy Scout, Sean is also looking forward to getting back into hiking and camping, which he hasn’t had much time for while in college. If he’s not doing that, Sean can usually be found with a book (or an e-book) in his hands, or playing tabletop games with friends.
