Volunteer Application, Part One Introduction The online application for a volunteer position with KNOM Radio Mission involves two parts: Completing the basic information and short-answer questions below; Attaching one or several text documents (preferably in Microsoft Word or PDF format) and an audio recording (.mp3). Full instructions for both parts of the application are below. Since some long-form/creative writing is involved in the application, we encourage you to read over all of the prompts on this page before you compose your answers and prepare your documents. Come back to this page and submit when all your answers and documents are ready. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact KNOM prior to submitting your application. Please note that clicking "Submit" below will immediately process the first part of your application; you'll then be taken to part 2 (in which you can upload the text and audio files we request). Again, we encourage you to review and prepare your answers prior to beginning your submission. You'll immediately be redirected to Part 2 of our application. Here's what we'll need: In a text document, please list your past 5 years’ employment, most recent first, to include: Name and address of each company Type of business Supervisor’s name, title, email, and WORK telephone number, including area code Dates employed Reason for leaving Description of work you did In a text document, please list three to five references who know you well and who are in a position to judge your motivation and employment record, such as teachers, pastors, supervisors, and employers. Do not include relatives. Please provide complete addresses, email, and phone numbers, including hours when they may be most likely available. In a text document, please include an essay of no fewer than 1,500 words, including answers to the following questions: What are your goals? What motivates you to volunteer? Why are you applying to KNOM? What do you hope to receive from being a KNOM volunteer? How do you expect to get along in a close community? Why? What special experiences, skills, or qualities will you bring to the program? Include anything else you feel is important to mention or explain. In an .mp3 audio file, please enclose a recording of your voice, preferably a “scoped” air check. If you do not have broadcasting experience, a 1-3 minute recording of you reading and talking will be adequate. While experience can be a plus, we are not necessarily looking for the most professional-sounding voice. We are concerned that you have a demonstrated ability to read and speak clearly, in unaccented English. Please arrange to have physical (paper) transcripts for all graduate and undergraduate work sent to KNOM. Either mail an official, sealed copy (one for each school) from the university registrar, or request them to be sent directly from your school to KNOM. Our address is: KNOM Radio Mission PO Box 988 Nome, AK 99762 attn: Margaret DeMaioribus (You'll see this address again after submitting your electronic application.) We encourage you to merge all of our requested text files into one document (Microsoft Word or PDF format); this should make sending your files to KNOM easier. You may, in addition, choose to group your text file(s) and audio file into a .ZIP archive file, although this is not required. Note that you do not need to wait on submitting your electronic application for your undergraduate/graduate transcripts to be processed with your university registrar(s). We'll happily accept your electronic application first with the understanding that your transcript(s) is/are on the way.
