Snowmachiner Hit Serum Run Expedition Musher, Identity of Driver Unknown

UPDATE: Alaska State Troopers report that the driver of the snowmachine has made contact with AST and is cooperating with the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Alaska State Troopers are looking for the snowmachiner who struck and injured Nome musher Kirsten Bey over the weekend.

Sunday night around 8:30pm, Bey was mushing outside of Galena, traveling from Ruby, as part of the Serum Run Expedition 2020 when she was hit by a snowmachine. While Expedition organizers report that the dog team was uninjured, Bey had to be medevac’d from Galena to Fairbanks with multiple injuries.

According to Troopers, the snowmachiner that hit the musher remained on scene until Bey was transported away. But his or her identity is unknown.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or identity of the driver is encouraged to contact Troopers at the Galena Post at 907-656-1233.
