Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome was recently ranked as the 11th Most Beautiful Hospital by Soliant, a nationwide healthcare staffing company. A total of 50 hospitals across the United States were nominated by patients, staff, and the general public. The contest highlights not only the physical beauty of the hospital structures but also the satisfaction of the staff.

The contest received over half a million votes (506,195), with Norton Sound Regional Hospital garnering more than 11,500 (11,531) votes. This marks the sixth year that the hospital has secured a position in the Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. Furthermore, the hospital has consistently featured in the top 20 list since the contest’s kick-off thirteen years ago.

Found overlooking the Bering Sea, the facility welcomes natural sunlight across its three floors. It stands as the largest building in Nome, with artwork displayed throughout each level. The hospital is equipped with 36 beds to accommodate patients.

A decade ago, Norton Sound Regional Hospital replaced its old building, which was sixty years old. Initially driven by the goal of providing comprehensive and high-quality inpatient care in Nome, the hospital now serves 15 villages throughout the Norton Sound region. As a step toward reducing the need for travel to Anchorage for healthcare services, the facility recently acquired a CT scanner and a cancer treatment chair.

This year’s title of the Most Beautiful Hospital was awarded to Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. The hospital’s architectural design includes a concrete shell tower, enhancing its resilience against earthquakes and hurricanes. This is Providence Hospital’s first appearance on the list.
