Led by senior Kiah Charlie, the Scammon Bay Eagles finished out a perfect season on top of clinching the championship. Gambell fell 39-79 to the Ninilchik Wolverines.
Bethel High School took home first place in this year’s Alaska Schools Activities Association ASAA 1, 2, and 3A State Championships with 264.5 points. Other teams from the region that scored included Nome, Barrow, and Kotzebue.
Led by Coach Jeff Collins, the Nanook boys scored 263 points while the girls scored 273 points and both teams finished in ninth place. Collins said via email, “The State meet went great…we took 12 athletes to State, of those 12 we will get 11 back next year.”
Nome-Beltz runners swept the board with men’s and women’s varsity team wins along with a junior high team win in this weekend’s Nome Classic Invitational.
