Land Use Permit Filed for Camp to Support Filming on Seward Peninsula

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has received a land use permit application from Taiga Ventures for a site in the Central Seward Peninsula about 19 miles northeast of Mary’s Igloo, on the Kougarok Road. Taiga Ventures is a remote logistics company that establishes camps for mining and other commercial operations.

While Taiga Ventures filed for the land use permit and would set up and operate the camp, the company using the facilities would be Pilgrim Studios, known for shows such as American Chopper, Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe, and Ghost Hunters.

The camp would consist of up to nine tents, serving as living quarters and working spaces. Taiga Ventures would begin setting up the camp in late August, and expects to tear it down sometime in mid-October, though the permit requests use of the site through November. According to the permit application, the camp population will not exceed 24 people.

The public has been invited to comment on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on July 5. Any questions should be directed to Nikki Potter at 451-2710.
