In a statement released last week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it remains concerned about the commercial use of polar bear hides, but it says it won’t encourage the ban.
“You can tell a lot of people are very proud of their livelihood and where they live,” said Brian Adams.
Nine athletes from Nome are competing at the international tournament. They’ll participate in four events: Dene Games, Arctic Sports, Biathlon Ski, and Alpine Skiing.
