Two cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Golovin, causing the community to go into lockdown for the next two weeks.

According to an announcement from Norton Sound Health Corporation, the two individuals tested positive for the virus through the City of Golovin’s travel requirements. After the positive results were found on Tuesday [Nov 10th], Golovin’s leaders instituted a community lockdown. The local school is now in the RED zone and will conduct distance learning from home. Also, the local store is limiting the public to only two people inside at a time.

NSHC said in the same press release, a third patient tested positive in Stebbins. This individual is connected to the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 in that community. Stebbins continues to be in full lock down after seeing 65 cases of the virus since mid-September.

And finally, a fourth case was identified Tuesday, but just announced today. The latest patient tested positive for the virus while in Nome. NSHC did not say if the individual is a resident of Nome or not.

The State Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing are aware of all four new cases and will conduct contact tracing. NSHC says the patients are safely isolating at this time.

With these four latest cases, the Norton Sound has a total of 179 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 162 of those have recovered with 17 currently considered active.
