Nome City Council Unanimously Advances Ordinance Requiring ID for Every Alcohol Sale

With its newest members now confirmed and seated following last week’s Municipal Election, the Nome City Council had a full agenda on Monday night. They unanimously advanced an ordinance that would require an ID for every alcohol sale in the city. They also heard citizens’ comments on a widely-shared video showing a Nome police officer smoking marijuana.

Nome City Council Delays Vote on Liquor Store Limits

Some citizens opposed a proposal to limit alcohol sales south of Sixth Avenue at Monday night’s Nome City Council meeting. Ultimately, the council delayed a vote on the ordinance — but heard suggestions, business changes, and other ideas that some residents felt would be more productive in addressing public intoxication.
